As she began to speak she became instantly shy and told me she a had question to ask me. She was slightly apprehensive about whatever this question was and used a lot of ...................... "well".."um".."well".."you don't have..". So I asked, "What is it Taylor?" and she finally began to speak in a full sentence and asked, "Would you like to be my photographer for my senior pictures?" I was SO happy when I heard her say this. I didn't let her wait for my response and I said yes. As soon as I responded her face lit up and she gave me a big hug. I later asked her why she was so nervous about asking me and she said "I was afraid you wouldn't want to take pictures of someone who is not photogenic." I laughed and told her she will look great!

The day had finally come and we were both excited about the shoot, although Taylor wasn't to thrilled about about having to wake up at 8:00am and get ready. She apologized to me about not being photogenic and I assured her everything would be just fine. As I predicited everything turned out great about the day except for the cloudless sky and endless sun, but Taylor did an amazing job none the less. She wanted me to always direct her on posing, which I fully intended on doing, but in front of the camera she naturally began posing on her own and showed a confidence in herself that really can be seen through her photos.

She said she was not photogenic........well she was wrong.

For the last frame she said she wanted a picture with a horse and she chose Sunbar. This past weekend I had the chance to take a little vacation with my family and go to Pittsburgh, PA. I really love the city, maybe ita something in the air, and I don't mean the supposed pollution. None the less I find that it has so many great and fun places, especially ones to photograph people.

One reason why we went down was to support my cousin in his modeling competition. He is trying to break into the industry early and is interested in all the fields but has a particular interest in acting. After the competition was over and the talent agents were reviewing all the contestants, he had gotten two "call backs" and both had been to act in a movie and a commercial. We were all happy and proud of him. Both of the agents requested recent head and body shots from him which he did not have, so they turned to me and I was more then happy to help! Whats that readers....?....I, I think I hear another brand new thing Scott has shot in 2009! This year just keeps on bringing. That's right, I had never shot a guy for an entire shoot just by himself, especially one for modeling. I was a bit nervous but I began to do some quick studying on posing for a male model and with the sunlight leaving us quickly we set off for a photo shoot.

Overall the shoot went quite well, as Ryan is still new to all this as well. We chose the photos we liked that night and sent them off to the agents. Less then twenty four hours later they responded and were sending him a script. Mission complete!

Thanks for stopping by,
Scott

Elliot, My Little Pa-Tot

NEWBORN

Hey everyone! In my last post I introduced to the world wide web Elliot Allen Fay my brand new nephew. I told you that soon within the week I would be doing an OFFICIAL newborn shoot with him and that he would be my first. See I didn't lie when I said 2009 would bring new things for me it did, because yet a again here is another "2009 Scott's gunna photograph something new" thing. So mama and papa (aka: Kelli & Don, the new parents) were going to come over to the studio.... yes I call moving all my furniture out of my living room and setting up lights and backdrops, my studio =]!

So I get all set up and everyone comes over, Grandparents, Great Grandparents, I had an audience as I shot. I began with the white background and everything was going great, he was looking as cute as ever until........he pooped all over my white fleece blanket, then he peed all over mom who was coming to pick him up. No fear though, I took it over to the sink and washed it off and blow dried it so we could continue using it. By the time we moved to the black backdrops he was completely pooped out (literally) and slept through the entire rest of the shoot. But by the end it was hard to get him to cover his privates and all he wanted to do was just praise Jesus and spread his legs wide open. Overall it was a great time and experience and I would absolutely love to do it again.

Don jumped in the last frame and gave a thumbs up for a shoot well done!

Thanks,
Scott

Elliot Allen Fay

NEWBORN/PERSONAL

Hey everyone, I hope you are all well. To begin I wanted to let everyone know that I am now a brand new UNCLE and one of the proudest, happiest around! You may remember the maternity shoot I had done for my sister Kelli and her fiance Don a couple months ago. Anyways I had been waiting for the call from my sister ever since her due date on April 29, 2009 and was sad when it did not happen. But, a couple nights later I had just gotten home from work around 10:00pm and sat down when all of a sudden........... the phone rang, and in my mind I knew. Kelli told me her water broke and she was going into labor. I jumped up and yelled "HER WATER BROKE", and my parents who had just gone to bed jumped up so fast out of fright from me yelling, plus my mother just took a Tylenol PM, so she was ecstatic for the road ahead. My mom left straight away and I stayed a bit to get showered and changed. I ended up going to the hospital at two in the morning and that is were I was until 10:00pm that day.

On May 1, 2009 at 4:38pm after 18 hours of labor a 7lb 12oz baby boy with a full head of dark brown hair named Elliot Allen Fay was brought into this world. He is absolutely perfect in every way and I could not be happier or prouder to say he is my nephew. He is already getting used to the camera and has a newborn shoot scheduled for tomorrow. But for now here are some of the candid photos I have taken of him.

I hope you enjoyed and be safe,
Scott

Two Loves Of My Life

PERSONAL

I dont know about everyone else but I am ready for summer and in the city of ever changing weather it has come...well for a few days at least. It has been cold for a while and now out of nowhere, for this weekend it is in the 80's! The suns shining and feeling good but I know it will most likely not be staying because this is Erie after all.

I figured this blog post would be a good time to introduce you to two loves in my life besides photography and they are my two dogs, Ruger & Bella (I do love my cat Princess as well but she is not as photo friendly as these two). Ruger is our 3 1/2 year old Black (Bench) Lab and Bella is our 9 month old mixed Black Lab/Australian Shepherd (we think)!?

We got Ruger a few months after Gunner had past away, it was just to difficult living without a dog. This time around when choosing a puppy we were very particular. We researched breeders and bloodlines until we found a one that was reputable. We were going for a bench lab, much like ones you would see in the Euckanuba Dog Shows. The plan was to look at the parents first before even seeing the litter, that way we knew what he could potentially grow up to look like.....this was not the case. By accident my mother was shown the litter first and as soon as she saw them she began bawling her eyes. We knew we would not be going home empty handed no matter what. It turns out Rugers parents were beautiful and came from a good bloodline and he is one of the greatest dogs in the world. Oh and his nickname is "Gene Simmons" for some obvious reasons, he he.

Bella on the other hand is our stray rescue pup. My dad had found her on his way home from work when she was only two months old. She was just walking along the railroad tracks on the East side of Erie, in a not so great neighborhood. We tried to find her, her original owners but no luck. In the end we decided to keep her as we all had grown very attached. We have a nickname for her as well and that is "Bella Lugosi" on the fact that when she plays with Ruger she makes an awful face and looks like a vampire bat, just like Bela Lugosi did in his movies when he was a vampire.

So as the weather is nice and they have been cooped up inside for a while now I decided to take the two on a walk to a local park. We all had a great time and I was able to get some photos of the two. After we had left the park and I drove away, I saw a guy speeding up and try to pass me ( I thought) But he was only trying to let me know I left my bag on the trunk of my car....my heart raced because I had left all my camera gear on the back and I was so thankful for him and for the fact that it had not fallen off. I was just about to turn onto a busy street and it was rush hour. That would not have made for a fun Friday. So without further ado here are two of the loves of my life.

Happy Saturday everyone,
Scott

Before We Say Goodbye

FAMILY PORTRAIT

Hello everyone... Last week I was contacted by my uncle, he asked me if I would not mind doing a family portrait shoot for them. I had never done a family shoot before and was more then willing to do this for them. Like I said in a previous blog, 2009 seems to be the year of new things for me.

As we talked, he began to explain the occasion for the shoot. The reason being is that their golden retriever Alex is dying of
cancer and they do not know how much longer he has. I'm
extremely sympathetic on this subject because a couple years back my golden retriever Gunner had passed away from cancer as well.

Losing a pet is like losing a family member who is always their for you and loves you unconditionally. It is extremely difficult and many often wonder why they leave so soon. The answer is because, when people are born, they are born to learn to live good lives and to love, this in turn can take a long time. But when animals are born, they are born already knowing how to love and there for do not need to stay with us as long.

I hope that gives those out their currently grieving a loss of a loved pet some conclusion, because the statement is so true.

It was difficult for Alex to sit up for long periods of time and he much preferred to lay down, so that is how we continued the shoot.

A lot of the time, Alex would get very much into it and instead of just laying on his side, he would roll over on his back so they would all rub his belly.

This photo is probably my favorite frame from the entire shoot.
There is just something about the way Missy and Alex both look that just make this a great portrait.

Alex managed to sit up for a couple of seconds before laying back down, so I made sure to get a portrait of him as well. I think he looks quite regal in this photo.

As I shot the final frames of Alex with his mom, I began to hear him moan. I was told that only when Judy would pet and rub him would he softly make the noise. It was so sweet.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, be safe.
Scott

The Great Gatsby

PERSONAL

Hey everyone! Last Sunday I began working on a project that entitled me to incorporate my photography with design work. For English we had just finished reading "The Great Gatsby". I found it be a excellent novel compared to the ones we are use to reading *cough* The Scarlet Letter *cough*.

At the end of the unit we were given the assignment, either by ourselves or with a partner to create a gossip magazine about the characters in the story. Our teacher showed examples of some of past projects and they were all basically.... type an article....paste a picture in it. I instantly wanted to go above and beyond this and knew exactly who I wanted to be partnered with... if she was willing.

Kellie & me had done a 1920's Flapper Shoot a couple months back and I knew she liked to model and she knew I liked to shoot models; it was a match. We both agreed on partnership and we waited for the ship to sail.

We had to play multiple characters so bare with me, all photos were shot with my 580EX II off camera being triggered by my Cybersyncs. We both had a lot of fun doing this although it was rainy and freezing the only time we had to shoot. I felt bad for Kellie as she was in a dress outside most of the time.

Daisy receiving the letter from Gatsby the day of her marriage.

Jordan, the pro golfer.

Jordan, cheating her way to victory.

Nick and Jordan

Myrtle Wilson, before death.

The Death Car

Portrait of Jay Gatsby

Here is the cover to the magazine I created:

Thanks for looking,
Scott

Justin & color: rgb(51, 51, 51);font-size:180%;" >Hey everyone! Back in the very beginning of December I was given a call by an old friend with whom I used to work with. Her name is Jessica and she happened to be getting married, which seemed so crazy to me but I was extremely happy for her.

She contacted me because one of her bridesmaids who I am very close to told her that I am big into photography and my dream is to become a professional wedding photography (although I had never shot one before)... we began to talk about the day and I let her take a look at my portfolio with her family. A few days later I got the call.... I was booked for February 28, 2009! I was so excited but did not know where to go next. I continued to research and learn from other photographer and eventually I was as prepared as I could be.
I had not been to many weddings in my life but I knew the routine. My good friend Danny came with me to help out when needed and I am so thankful for him because the day would have been so much more difficult without him. He was right there every step of them way ready to help when ever. As for the wedding it was a traditional but beautiful ceremony and the reception was crazy, non stop dancing and fun, all till the end.

Both the Undercofler & Snyder families were great to work with and I am very proud to say my first wedding was theirs. You couldn't ask for two great people who are madly in love with each other. So here is to Justin & Jessica Snyder, may the rest of their life together be filled was happiness.

Have a great My name is Scott Baker and I'm Lifestyle Photographer who is currently located in Erie, Pennsylvania, the city of never ending weather change. I will be using this blog to help document my time as a photographer, as well as a way to document my life as it unfolds. From this blog I hope to achieve the readers understanding of just who I am as a person. So without further ado....

Some may know that in less the a month I am going to be a first time uncle! I'm absolutely enthusiastic about this and cannot wait for my nephew Elliot Allen Faye to come into this world. I'm going to get him started on the camera young....I can see it now, lol. But as we wait my sister Kelli & her fiance Don agreed to do a maternity shoot. This was a first for me, as many things seem to so far in 2009 and I had a blast shooting them.

Don since the beginning of the shoot kept wanting to do a fighting pose and finally by the last frame we were able to get Kelli to join in and it actually turned out cute.

Thanks for stopping by,
Scott
